Trey Anastasio and Amanda Green were nominated for a Tony Award® for Best Original Score for HANDS ON A HARDBODY. The new American musical HANDS ON A HARDBODY just celebrated opening night last night, March 21, at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre. After the show, the cast and creative team gathered at the Roseland Ballroom with their real-life counterparts from the documentary on which the musical is based.

There’s a moment halfway through the second act of HANDS ON A HARDBODY, the new musical opening on Broadway tonight, that regularly raises a smattering of cheers from the audience. It’s not an acrobatic bit of choreography, or a particularly exhausting patter song, but a simple leap from the stage.

“It seems like a straight line,” Amanda Green told Harry Haun of the New York Observer, “but actually it was a very squiggly line that got me to where I am today.”

Trey Anastasio isn't your typical Broadway composer, but since he joined those ranks with HANDS ON A HARDBODY as a co-composer of the country- and roots-rock-inflected score, the project took off, as well as his dreams of Broadway.
